Elke Brutsaert, CMT

Other Modalities (Sports Massage)

Elke is a graduate of the South West School of Massage. She specializes in Sports and Rehabilitative Massage and has taken courses in Advanced Postural Analysis, Spinal Reflex Analysis, Muscle Release Therapy, and Active Isolated Stretching. Prior to becoming a massage therapist, Elke was a professional mountain bike athlete -- competing on the national and international racing circuits for 8 years. Her initial teaching experience came as a mountain bike coach and instructor. She designed and executed women's mountain biking clinics, coached at race camps, and guided mountain bike tours. Since 2003, Elke has worked as the Team Soigneur for the Giant Bicycle Mountain Bike Team -- providing support and massage therapy for the professional athletes on the team. She was USA Cycling World's 2004 Team Manager for the Downhill Team and 2005 Junior Coach. Currently, she is the Downhill Mountain Bike coach for Fort Lewis College. Elke's extensive experience as an elite athlete has served her well in her career as a massage therapist. She understands first-hand the physical and psychological dimensions of Sports Massage and is dedicated to providing comprehensive sports massage education to students. Her personable and supportive nature makes her a favorite in the classroom.


April Howell, NCTMB

April is a graduate of Rocky Mountain Institute of Healing Arts and a nationally certified massage therapist. With a background in Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue, and Neuromuscular Therapy, April offers her clients a variety of ways to relax, restore and unwind. She calls Pagosa Springs, Colorado, home and has a busy, successful massage practice there. In her free time, she loves to hike and ski the beautiful backcountry of Colorado.


De Vere Keen Gamble, NCTMB

Swedish Massage

De Vere is a graduate of the South West School of Massage and has a therapeutic massage practice in downtown Durango. She specializes in Deep Tissue, Neuromuscular Therapy, Craniosacral Therapy, and Reiki. Before becoming a massage therapist, De Vere was an instructor for an outdoor education school focusing on leadership, team building, skill development and personal growth. De Vere's passion in bodywork lies in empowering each individual to connect with and access his or her own powerful, authentic self through therapeutic, integrative touch. Her commitment with teaching is inspired by presence, joy, integrity and grace. When she is not doing bodywork or teaching, she enjoys yoga, mountain biking, skiing, or curling up with her cat China, and a good book.


Mark Little, NCTMB

Mark is a graduate of Rocky Mountain Institute of Healing Arts’ Combined Massage Therapy and Heartworks Approach Program. In addition to working as a massage therapist, he has served as a wilderness instructor for at-risk youth, corporate consultant, and field biologist. In his private practice, Mark offers neuromuscular therapy, deep tissue, Swedish massage, and Reiki. He is passionate about equine, canine and feline massage. Mark’s mission is to serve others with compassion, integrity, humor and honesty. He can often be found reading, exploring the night sky, or in the woods, connecting with the land and its inhabitants.


Rebecca Mauldin, NCTMB, Certified Neuromuscular Therapist

In addition to serving as Director of the Rocky Mountain Institute of Healing Arts, Rebecca teaches several classes. She is a graduate of the Southeastern School of Neuromuscular and Massage Therapy of Charlotte, NC. She specializes in Neuromuscular Therapy and Integrative Massage. Rebecca carries a deep sensitivity and respect for the body and psyche of clients. She combines a compassionate heart, a joyous outlook on life, and a keen understanding of structural kinesiology in her work as a therapist and teacher. In her free time, you may find Rebecca riding her beloved horse Yago, alpine skiing, jogging, tending her garden or learning to play her guitar.

Davida has been a Certified Massage Therapist for over 25 years. She attended massage school at the New Age School of Holistic Health in Sebastopol, CA. In 1985, she became a Certified Breema Practitioner and a year later earned her Instructor's Certification from The Breema Center. Since then, she has taught Breema, massage therapy, and metaphysics in a variety of massage schools and workshops around the country. She organized, ran, and participated in a massage therapy program for HIV positive clients.

Davida carries a radiant healing presence that is easily felt and appreciated by students and co-workers. Her wisdom and compassion create a deep and safe space for exploratory learning. It is her desire to spark each student to their highest and to support them to express their unique potential.


Donna Pittenger, CMT, Reiki Master Teacher, Certified Hypnotherapist

Donna has been practicing Reiki since 1991 and became a Reiki Master Teacher in 1997. She has taught Reiki and energetic healing techniques in massage schools and workshops. In 2001, she graduated from the South West School of Massage in Durango, CO. In her work as a Certified Hypnotherapist, she specializes in releasement and regression therapy.

Donna has an infectious enthusiasm for her work as well as for life in general that makes her classroom a fun and lively place to learn. With over a decade of experience working with energy, she has a vast body of knowledge that she is able to impart with humility and respect.


Ryan Swoverland, CMT, Reiki I
Swedish Massage

Ryan is a graduate of the South West School of Massage and has been a member of the Durango communty for over seven years. He has practiced massage therapy since May 2001, specializing in a combination of Swedish Massage, connective tissue and lomi lomi techniques, and neuromuscular therapy. Ryan's intention is to provide a consciousness to the classroom. When he is not teaching or giving a massage, you may find him mountain biking, hiking with his dog, reading, rafting, snowboarding, camping, or spending time with famiy and friends.


Judith Vanderryn, Ph.D.
Ph.D. Psychology, University of Colorado at Boulder

Developing the Healer Within

Judith is a clinical psychologist who has worked with a variety of clients, including college students, veterans and other surivors of violence with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, young children at day care centers, people suffering from chronic pain and from substance addiction, couples, and individual clients looking to make changes in their lives. She has supervised therapists in master's degree programs. Her private practice work includes pain management and biofeedback. In the classroom, Judith brings a deep understanding of how an individual's development makes a difference in his or her present life. She uses a combination of experiential and didactic teaching to help students make meaningful connections to their clients. Judith is married, has 2 children, loves eating chocolate, skiing, hiking, biking, playing on the river, hanging out with friends, knitting (as a beginner!), singing, and reading.


Guest Instructors

In order to provide a variety of experts in different modalities, we utilize the services of guest instructors. These instructors teach Introduction to Other Modalities and assist with other courses. They come from a variety of backgrounds such as traditional Western medicine, energetics, Oriental Medicine, chiropractic, and massage therapy.
